Leon County Court Calendars Explained
Leon County puts out no single calendar covering every court. What you get instead are separate pieces. The County Dockets page lists dated misdemeanor links along with cancellation notices. The District Court Dates page offers coordinator contacts and a setting form. It is not a full searchable calendar. County Court civil and probate settings get made by appointment. JP and municipal dates stay with the court that issued them.
Federal cases run through Western District of Texas channels, not Leon clerk systems. Match each date to its source and timestamp. A PDF, a citation deadline, a jury recording, and a coordinator confirmation are all different calendar objects.
Leon District Calendar Contacts
For the 87th and 369th District Courts, call Misty Lewis at 903-536-1032 or write misty.lewis@co.leon.tx.us. Casey Robertson handles the 278th at crobertson@co.walker.tx.us. Leon's own pages list both 936-436-4916 and 936-436-4639 for that office, so confirm which line is current before you rely on one.
These benches serve several counties. Knowing a case was filed in Leon does not tell you the coordinator. Go by the assigned court and cause number.
Finding Your Court Date
Use every channel that fits the case rather than relying on one old notice.
- Read the citation, notice, or caption for the court and cause number.
- Check the county misdemeanor docket, District Court Dates page, re:SearchTX record, or issuing lower court.
- Call or email the proper clerk or coordinator and ask for the current setting.
- Check any courthouse or courtroom posting and counsel’s current notice.
- For jury service, use the court’s recorded line the evening before.
A few phone lines cover most needs. The District Clerk answers at 903-536-2227, and the County Clerk criminal desk is 903-536-2352, Option 1. District jury updates may not post until after 5:30 p.m. the night before at 903-536-5058, while County Court jury instructions use 903-536-5766.
Leon Two-Message Setting Route
District settings follow a two-message route. The district setting request must be eFiled with the District Clerk. It also goes by email to the right coordinator. The form warns that no coordinator copy means no docket placement. It asks for the cause number, caption, court, setting type, requested date, estimated time, parties, service certification, and a signature.
Filing it is only a request, though. A motion hearing, pretrial, bench trial, jury trial, or "other" are separate choices on the form. None of them is a confirmation. Wait for written confirmation from the court, then recheck near the hearing.
How to Read a Court Setting
A reliable Leon County court date record identifies more than a day.
| Date | The scheduled date, not merely publication date. |
|---|---|
| Time | The docket call or individual start time. |
| Courtroom | The stated room or approved remote location. |
| Judge or court | The assigned district, County Court, JP, or municipal court. |
| Setting type | Motion hearing, pretrial, bench trial, jury trial, plea, or appearance. |
| Status note | Any reset, cancellation, remote instruction, or later source timestamp. |
Probate sometimes hands out Zoom instructions for its hearings. That link belongs to probate alone. It does not reach district, JP, or municipal cases unless that court says otherwise.
Leon Setting Terms
Calendar words describe procedure, and each has a distinct effect.
- Hearing
- A court event addressing a motion or issue.
- Pretrial
- A setting before trial for case management or pending matters.
- Bench trial
- A trial decided by the judge.
- Jury trial
- A trial in which a jury decides assigned fact questions.
- Reset
- A setting moved to another date.
A requested date is just an input. A confirmed date is the court's setting, so trust the latest notice and its source time.
Continuances, Resets, and Cancellations
Continuances and resets move a proceeding to a new time. A cancellation is different. It takes a setting off the list but proves no dismissal and offers no replacement date. If the misdemeanor page shows a cancellation, call the County Clerk or the county attorney's setting contact. For district court, go to the assigned coordinator.
When you call, quote the date exactly as displayed. Note whether it was a hearing, trial, appearance, or docket call. Check the source again before you travel. The Leon County Case Lookup can help you find the underlying case. Only the court confirms the date.
Leon County Appointment Settings
County Court probate and other civil matters are set by appointment. That comes from the County Judge page. Call 903-536-2331 rather than hunting for those settings on the misdemeanor docket page. JP1, JP2, and JP4 each keep their own hours and calendars. Jewett Municipal Court works differently still. It uses an "On or Before" citation date plus walk-in instructions.
The court that issued the citation controls it. A municipal citation never belongs at a justice court just because both sit in Leon County.
Leon Jury Date Checks
Jury reporting runs on its own last-minute schedule. District jury instructions may not update until after 5:30 p.m. the night before. That is the county's warning. County Court has its own evening-before recording. Remember that these recordings cover jury service only, not every party's setting.
Keep the summons close and listen for your court or panel. If the message leaves you unsure, call the office printed on the summons.
If You Miss a Court Setting
Reach the clerk, the coordinator, and your counsel right away. Ask whether the setting went forward, whether the court issued an order, and what process gets you a new date. An online list will not show every consequence.
Act promptly: A missed criminal or citation setting can have serious case consequences. Only the issuing court can state the current status and next required act.
Write down each call, email, and source you checked. A licensed attorney can explain how the court's order applies to your case.
Leon Court Date Source Check
Docket links, notices, emails, citations, jury recordings, and portal entries do not update on the same clock. Match the court and cause number every time. Note what the source actually says. Is the date requested, set, reset, continued, or cancelled?
Conflicting sources go to the assigned office. The clerk keeps the filings. The coordinator manages district placement, and the lower courts answer for their own citations.
Save the page title, the date you checked, the court, and the exact wording. One misdemeanor docket's cancellation notice says nothing about when another case will be heard. A filed setting request shows what was asked for, not what was granted. So ask for the latest written confirmation. Ask whether a new notice will issue.
Leon Lower Court Date Routes
Each Leon County justice court sets its own schedule. The phone you call depends on which precinct issued the ticket. JP1 answers at 903-322-4795, JP2 at 903-536-2523, and JP4 at 903-529-1261. Their counters open at different hours, and each offers its own payment link. Remember that a payment page tells you nothing about your court date. The Jewett municipal court works differently. It uses an "On or Before" date printed on the ticket, and its cases stay separate from JP matters. For any citation, ask the issuing court directly. Get the date, time, place, deadline, and remote rules from that court.
Counter hours vary by precinct. JP1 opens 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. JP2 lists 7:45 to 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 to 4:45 p.m. JP4 keeps 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. None of these are hearing times. A city citation belongs with the city court. It never goes to a JP precinct just because the city sits nearby.
Leon Remote Appearance Limits
Probate in Leon County posts Zoom instructions, but that does not mean every county date can be handled remotely. Every court makes its own call on appearances. Before your hearing, ask whether the setting is in person, remote, or hybrid, and pin down the details: when to connect, how identity is checked, how documents get exchanged, and a backup phone number. If an approved link fails, contact the court immediately rather than waiting.
A few more questions are worth asking the clerk or coordinator. Do exhibits need to be filed ahead of time? Must participants join early? Which number works if the connection drops? Keep the court's email or notice handy. A technical failure does not excuse a missed appearance by itself, so report any problem to the clerk or coordinator the moment it happens.
Leon Calendar Access Channels
A docket search online is not the only route. Leon County also gets court dates out through the dated misdemeanor docket and the District Court Dates page. Notices filed in a case work too. So do re:SearchTX where records are exposed, a call to the clerk, coordinator email, the clerk counter, counsel's notice, and postings at the courthouse. There is no single daily calendar covering every Leon court.
The District Clerk, at 139 E. Main, answers district record questions at 903-536-2227. The office also takes written requests or counter visits. County misdemeanor records sit with the County Clerk at 155 N. Cass Street. That office is reached at 903-536-2352. A record can come by mail. A hearing coming up soon is better checked by phone or email. Federal court dates need PACER and the Western District of Texas Waco Division, not a county clerk.
Call the district jury line at 903-536-5058 for jury service, though it may not update until after 5:30 p.m. the night before. County Court jury instructions use 903-536-5766 on the evening before service. Listen for the right court and panel. A jury recording does not replace a party's hearing notice in an unrelated case.
